Benefits Access

Benefits Access is what many people still call the Circuit Breaker.  This program gives a discount on your license plate ($75 off) and free rides on the Metra, PACE, and CTA.  After your on-line application is approved (application link: https://webapps.illinois.gov/AGE/BAA/Welcome.aspx), you will need to print your certificate to take with you when you go to the Secretary of State’s office to renew your license plate registration. Once approved your Benefits Access application is good for 2 years, the beginning and end dates will be on the certificate.

To sign-up for free public transportation, print and complete the registration form found here: http://rtachicago.org/rider-resources/reduced-fare/ride-free-permits and take this, the Benefits Access Certificate, and a 2”x2” picture to the RTA Free Ride Registration Sites to complete your registration.

Qualifications: You must be 65 years or older by December 31 of the current year or 16 – 64 years of age and totally disabled before January 1 of this year; and you must be a resident of Illinois at the time you file this application; and your income must be less than: $27,610 for a 1 person household, $36,635 for a 2 person household, $45,657 for a 3 person household.
